Re: [A/S] Using a JEEP to tow a small Airstream
Hi Jason,
Welcome to the list. To answer your question, in a word... NO. At best your
will burn up your transmission. At worst you'll be upside down on the side of
the road.
As you already stated, that Jeep is not a tow vehicle and it never should be.
It has a high center of gravity and a short wheelbase..... a recipe for
disaster.
Tow vehicles need to be very stable on the road.... and need heavy duty
components. Transmission, engine, brakes..... Jeeps are great fun, unless you are
attempting to tow with them.
When looking at tow vehciles look for long wheelbases.... like pick-ups or
suburbans. 8 cylinder engines...or more. Heavy transmissions with transmission
coolers.
All vehicles come with a tow rating, some exaggerate their capacity. I just
saw an ad for a Nissan SUV that claims around 9,000#. That's total bs and
will get someone hurt.
Remember, you are putting your, and others' lives, on the line. Don't push
the envelope.
