Being able to raise the bed works great. We have the rear side bed in 
our '85 Sovereign and have hinged it so that I can get into the back of 
the drawers and also access the exterior storage. Makes it a whole lot 
easier to stow and retrieve longer items from the exterior compartment.

You won't regret the time and effort.
