RE: [A/S] Towing with a car

I have the exact same car and have been getting it ready to tow my 1966
28' Ambassador. Although I haven't weighed my Ambassador, I suspect it
is about the same as your Safari (as you may know, the older trailers
are lighter). I was able to get a bolt-on hitch from JC Whitney for
about $125 and I added an extra large capacity transmission cooler
(about $50 from JC Whitney).  I haven't towed the Ambassador yet because
I still need to install my electric brake controller (I have a Prodigy
in my other tow vehicle and am going to get another wiring harness and
mount, so all I have to do is unhook the wiring harness and unscrew two
screws and move it over). 
  However, I recently towed a very heavy 16 foot center console boat
(Cape Horn - made in Milton, Florida) with the Continental and it had
plenty of power and handled well. My only concern is that the rear end
dropped about 4-6 inches with the boat. I didn't have a weight
distribution hitch for the boat, but it tongue weight is still a great
deal less than the Ambassador's. I may end up putting a set of heavier
coils on the rear to compensate for the extra weight.
  Keep in mind that your gas mileage will be alarming (I estimate 4-6
towing), but you can't beat the comfort and style.
