Burt,
I agree with Richard. You ain't gonna get that old coax out of the walls 
without major surgery.  What I have done on a couple of occasions is to 
route the coax outside, usually only a short distance, to just above one 
of the overhead cabinets, then down behind curtains to the the TV 
location. Unless the old coax is open or shorted it probably would not 
be worth the change.
