[A/S] Re: "darned" awning.
Arnie, I had an Argosy (don't remember the year, but it was the last
year for the Airstream body Argosys) that I cleaned the awning with
mild soap and bleach. Then, applied Thompsons water seal. Worked
fine. However, on my '86 airstream, when the white stripes were
yellowing badly, I tried the same soap and bleach to brighten it
up. Well, afterward, the awning leaked like a sieve (might as well
have been a cotton sheet). So, I tried the water seal again and
this time it was a mess. Really yellowed the white part of the
fabric, - - but it didn't let water pass through anymore.
I guess the moral of the story is to follow Zip Dee instructions
first and if nothing works, experiment. The worst thing that can
happen is you'll have to have new fabric installed. (I did that
too).
