Re: [A/S] Prepaid Towing services

Chuck,
Good Sam has pre-arranged agreements with a lot of towing services but
the nature of that business causes a lot of turn over for them and
probably makes it difficult predict "who and how long" in a most cases.

I have used their services twice over the years and both times the tow
service did not have a contract with Good Sam. I am sure those operators
were selected on the basis of proximity to me at the time I needed
them. Also, because they use so many independent operators the quality
of service will probably average out to be about the same as any other
group of mom and pop business across our country.

Both of my tows were exceptional in both response time and the way we
were treated. In one case I was pulled out of Davis Mountains State Park
in West Texas through the mountains to Alpine. The Chevrolet dealership
would not take my Chevy P30 chassis MH. That is a truck chassis and
they didn't work on trucks. The tow operator took me to a lawn mower
shop. That's what I said, "a lawn mower shop."

The tow operator, who had helped me diagnose the problem as a carburetor
problem said don't worry son, you are in the best hands you could be in
in West Texas. That fella had a rebuild kit sent in overnight from Fort
Stockton and in the meantime spent the whole night boiling out the old
carburetor. Two days later we were back on the road with several things
fixed in addition to the carburetor. The bill came to $147.00 and the
tow operator put on clean jeans and treated us to a 2" thick T-bone steak.

Good Sam didn't have lot to do with any of that. Like most everyone
else here we have met a few old soreheads in over 40 years of RVing but
most of the time its been enjoying just plain folks who make us glad we
came their way then we are faced with trying to figure out some way to
pay 'em back.

Oh yeah, y'all, We sold our 30' Excella the first day to the first of
about 15 contacts, thanks to this list.
