Hunter,
When the torque converter in my Suburban started to go I had plenty of 
warning.  The truck would start to shimmy like an out of balance wheel 
or bad tires.  I could not figure it out.  I even thought that my drive 
shaft was out of balance.  By the time I got it diagnosed by a computer 
it was a year later.  The bad news was that it would be expensive but 
the good news is that it didn't just let go.  I know I am talking a gas 
powered chevy and not a diesel ford but thought I would throw out that 
tidbit of info.
