In that case I offer "drive ahead", similar to what performance pilots do - 
know what your going to do or can do before you do it - dont limit your 
knowledge and reactions to that around you.  Best means to describe - look at how 
"city" truck drivers function ins such areas as Chicago and New York - always 
braking at last minute, and fast start ups - no thought to gearing down 
ahead of time, using the gears and brakes to your advantage and timing the 
situation to your advantage.  Always have an alternative direction to move to.
