[A/S] Water fix
Greetings from the 46th International Rally in Vermont. The rally is
winding down and more people are
leaving each day. We are staying in the area for a while.
Today was the flea market, always a major event for me! We sold some stuff
and bought some other
stuff. I guess you could say we swapped fleas with our neighbors. B^)
All the years we have been camping/trailering we have had to put up with
hard water. You know,
the soap won't lather and the shampoo just makes your hair feel
sticky. Kirk's Castile Hard Water
Soap helps but it's hard to find and lacks the finesse of some other
brands. Well today I finally did
something about it! I fixed the water problem!
I installed a water softener, with a one micron prefilter to catch the big
chunks. Then just for good
measure I installed a carbon filter at the kitchen sink for drinking
water. Total cost about $325
(some fittings were used and the little faucet was already there). The
water softener is a Water
Wizard and is a very simple manually recharged device. It uses potassium
chloride to recharge the
resin bed rather than salt. Looking forward to my first good shower in
over two months!
By the way Hunter's GTG was great and well attended. It's always nice to
see old friends and
put faces to names. We screwed up and missed the Vintage open house. B^(
The new prototype B van based on the Mercedes chassis is neat but not for
us full-timers.
The new 28 foot CCD trailer, on the other hand was a breath of fresh
air! The first new
design in years that looks like a practical trailer to live in. Not that
the black paint and bare
aluminum look appeal to me but I like the floor plan, a lot! Maybe the
floor plan will trickle
UP into the Classic line.
It was a major disappointment that there were no solar power venders and
the RV Safety
Foundation people did not attend. Someone said that the vender fees have
gotten to high.
I understand the fees will be lower next year.
All in all it's been a good rally, for me at least.
