RE: [A/S] Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems/Cost

Jim,
I have been researching remote tire monitoring systems for my rig for
sometime.  I have the factory system on my 2000 vette and it is really
nice to actually know what is happening with tire pressures.  Anyway,
you might want to hold off on buying.  Pressure Pro will shortly bring
to market a new system that will drop the price SIGNIFICANTLY.  (BTW, I
have NO association with Pressure Pro).  Their system uses valve stem
mounted, screw on transducers, so there is NO installation charge, NO
removing tires from rims, etc.  Their system will handle 6 axles (12
tires).  They sold a predecessor to this new system to the over-the-road
truck crowd for several years, but the transducer size at that time was
too large for SUVs, car, light trucks.  With improvements in electronics
the transducer has shrunk to be MUCH smaller, lighter and cheaper (est
$15 each).  I am scheduled to do some beta testing on this newer design
later this month, so once the testing is finished and I can legally talk
about the product I will post more information.  All the information

Although the internal mounted transducers are theft proof, they also
carry the high installation cost and their transmitting range has proven
to be limited (every one that I have investigated required a hitch
mounted antenna in order to reliably receive signals from the trailer
tires).  Given the low replacement cost of the valve stem mounted
transducers and the new small size, I am willing to live with the small
theft issue, beside, you can always just remove them for safe keeping
when not actually using them.
