I know my new 3/4 van sits higher than my half ton and
GM in their wisdom removed the grab handle on the dash
that my wife used in assisting her entry.  We ended up
putting running boards on the van that not only look
good, but have assisted her greatly.  That first step
in is now lower than the step she had to take with the
1/2 ton sans running board.  

You might consider adding these to assist in entry.
