I have a 97 2500HD ram with the 47RH and V10. As you say, it unlocks when 
you coast, BUT - if I slow to below 39 MPH and shift down to second, it 
will lock and I have full compression braking (with the gas engine). I have 
descended many mountain downgrades like this, keeping the brakes cool for 
emergencies.

I agree that if I actually get this diesel+stick, I will almost certainly 
add the Jake Brake. (I can't see myself in mountains with only discs and 
drums).

Apparently Dodge thinks the automatic transmission is not tough enough to 
use with the Jake brake presently, but I read a rumor somewhere in the Jake 
brake web pages that this may change soon - maybe they are beefing up the 
tranny.
