Re: [A/S] mattresses
I was looking for something that would be reasonably priced, to replace
mattress in our '85 Sovereign, as the previous owners had replaced the
original mattress with a rail bed double.. Being in Canada, to import
something would be cost prohibitive, by the time shipping, duty and
taxes were added.
So I opted for a foam mattress to tied us over until we are snowbirding
in Arizona. I used a 6" 3# base with cover and added a 2" 2# topper. I
opened the cover and used an an electric knife to cut the corner then
closed up the cover again. The 2" topper goes on top of the mattress,
with a mattress cover over it. This setup gives you plenty of support
yet has no pressure points. The total cost in $C, not including the
mattress cover was $140.00. You should be able to do better in the USA.
Depending on how long the foam set up works (if I get 2-3 years,
replacing the foam might look like a better deal), I will be look at
other options when we are in AZ and can have something made up and shipped.
Just another idea for those who may not want to go whole hog.
regards...
