I had the valves changed on our trailer in Oct. of 2000, even though it
wasn't mandated until April of 2001. We were about to leave on an extended
trip and I didn't want to run into any "situations" along the way.

Speaking of overfilling: When I bought this trailer, it was sitting with the
front facing North. My inspection revealed that the tank mounting assembly
was loose on the tongue; no big deal, but I didn't want it to fall off on
the way home. Soooo... I removed the bottles and put 'em in the back of my
P/U. When I got home, I left everything as-is for a couple of days, with the
truck (and bottles) sitting in the sun. BOTH bottles began venting excess
gas, as both were overfilled. This is no problem, of course, unless there's
a source of ignition such as someone walking by with a cigarette; it then
can become a BIG problem!

Like most here, I've had bottles filled many times, by many different
people. Some are very careful, using a scale to determine "full", others
just pump 'er in until the float on the OPD valve snaps closed. The attitude
(and training) of the latter bunch is why we HAVE OPD valves in the first
place.
