Re: [A/S] New tow vehicle
I bought a new (2003)Chevy Avalanche recently to pull our
Airstream. The Avalanche fan club recommended the Prodigy break
controller. I found a good deal at pplmotorhomes.com and ordered
one. I told them I had a new '03 avalanche and the sent a pigtail
for something like nine bucks. It seems the '02 Chevy trucks have a
different wiring. One did not come with the truck. The setup works
great and was easy to install. The instructions indicated the break
controller should be unpluged when not towing the trailer. In fact
the Prodigy came with a little cloth covering t put it in while it
is in the glove compartment.
I have found that there is not 12 volt fuse that will enable the
truck to recharge the trailer batteries while towing so I need to
get one of them at under $3.
My airstream book details how to wire my setup for allowing the
refridgerator to run on propane while driving and when the engine on
the truck is turned off the referigerator shuts off. I'd like this
safty feature but do not want to run another connector to the truck
so will probably just go back in the trailer and shut off the
refridgerator when I stop for gas. If I ever have to replace the
refridgerator I'll get one that runs on 12vdc as well as 120vac and
propane.
