Re: [A/S] more info-OPD valves
Arnie - Like most articles about OPD this one is incomplete or in error.
As for instance the article states that
ALL valves must be changed from POL to OPD.
That's not true as all horizontal tanks are exempt as well as all tanks
made prior to
a certain date, which I believe is around 1992..
Those inaccurate articles cause a lot of trouble on the road
for those of us with horizontal tanks, both motor homes and trailers
when we go to fill up.
The biggest culprit is the LP Gas Association themselves. They put out a
poster that stats ALL valves must be replaced. Again not true as not all
states have not passed laws
requiring the change, not to mention the exceptions for horizontal,
welding, farm use etc.
When filling up I always have a set of the real rules - Federal Rules - to
show the
attendant who was "taught by my boss" that all valves must be
replaced. The biggest
problem is retail outlets like Flying J, Petro etc.
The easiest fill up's are the wholesaler, who keeps up with the current rules.
Many a person with older tanks (exempt) have been scammed out of their
beautiful aluminum
tanks, or had steel tank valves installed instead of aluminum tank valves
installed by an uneducated retailer
This is a real case of buy beware.
