Blair,
 You're right about the horizontal tanks not needing the valves replaced,
but the older tanks definitely DO need new valves. You're also correct about
the valves for the aluminum tanks being different than those for steel
tanks. That's due to the difference in curvature of the top of the tank, the
float assy is a different length for aluminum and steel tanks.

Only 1 or 2 States have not gone along with the new guidelines, most will
require the new valves in order to get your tanks filled. IIRC, Louisiana is
one of the exceptions.
