Terry, I put Amsoil in my 2001 F-150 at that mileage and installed a
temperature gauge. Synthetic holds up better to heat which is the mail
source of transmission problems. Some recommend against using synthetic
except in a brand new engine on the grounds that it flows into tiny areas
better than regular oils and may cause leaks at gaskets and seals. That may
be a problem for transmissions with 100,000 miles but it hasn't affected my
truck. My experience has been good.
