While you are scrambling up ideas, it might be worthwhile to give your
favorite mechanic (someone who is intimately familiar with the black water
valve) a call on your cell phone and ask him to walk you through a temporary
fix. Tell him you're ready to pay his hourly fee while he talks you through
it. 

Most of us on this list have at least one such person whom we'd feel
confident about making that request. By chance, do you know Walt
(1.352.237.6813) in Ocala, Florida (eastern time zone)?  I know for a fact,
that Paul (Walt's SIL) is one such person because I've seen him actually do
that job.
