You are half right. Liability Insurance flows from your vehicle to 
any attached trailer.  The problem is physical damage!! If you want 
your trailer covered in case of accident, damage, theft, etc. you 
must get coverage for Physical damage. Also, you must look at your 
liability limit on your vehicle to see if it is enough to cover your 
assets.  Remember, you are not only driving a vehicle, you have a 
trailer attached and the potential for damage to others is great so 
make sure you have enough limits for multiple injuries/deaths.
