You have to drill off the rivet heads on the clamps that hold the gas 
line up to the tongue and drop the gas line down so you can put the 
plates between it and the tongue.  You can then reuse the clamps with 
spacers and and a long screw to resecure the gas line, or get 
creative with a couple of nuts on each U-bolt and a coupla strips of 
rubber between them to support the gas line.  Just make sure the gas 
line isn't rubbing on the plates.

Another tip... if you have those stainless covers on the tongue arms, 
you need to drill the rivet heads off and take the covers off.  The U 
bolts can't get enough of a grip on the tongue with them there and 
will let the clamps slide.
