There's not really a cheap way to do what Bob was talking about.  My advice
is to keep your personal computer turned off when you're on the road, if you
have a cable modem or DSL.  I run two firewalls here and I see where I'm
getting spanked by some guy in China on a regular basis.

1.  The technical knowledge to get something set up to work from your home
while you are on the road is not something you pick up reading a book.
Doesn't make much sense to have your computer at home getting your email and
holding it until you come in...when the average connects that I get on the
road are 36.5K.  No matter how fast your homelink is...dial up is going to
be slow.  So, you local connection is going to be the hold up there.

2.  I don't know of too many ISP's that are assigning static IP addresses.
So, about every 7 days, they are going to change your numbers.  Without
knowing those numbers, you have no way to connect to your home computer.
This is what my current DNS name is: adsl-65-68-75-254.dsl.hstntx.swbell.net
[65.68.775-254).  The name of your local machine is not usually entered into
the upstream dns table.  They just ASSIGN you a name for 4-7 days.  So, not
knowing the name, you won't be able to connect.  You can connect directly
via the 65.68.75.254.  However, you won't be able to find that number out
without knowing the name. And, if you know the name 9 out of 10 times, you
won't be able to because of THEIR system security.

3.  The absolute best way would be to get one of those satellite systems
that allows you internet access.  Then you could get your email directly to
your traveling computer.  There are security issues with SMTP and POP3 that
the ISP's are currently implementing that won't allow you to send and
receive mail unless you are dialed into their network.

I other know ways...but, they are too long and drawn our for this list.  If
