  Hi, I have been around GM engines for years here in my shop. The 
only V8 that had a heating problem was the 400 small block. The 400 
big block (same design as 454) did not. The 454 started out life as 
the old 396. A good engine from the start. The only 454 I ever saw 
with a heating problem needed a new radiator. It belongs to my buddy. 
He tows a 35ft fifth wheel. It is a 85 2WD one ton long frame with a 
TH400 and 410 gears. He operates the air all the time. But like any 
horse that works hard, it has to be fed. About 8 mpg loaded. If you 
need the HP and you see one you like, it is a good choice. Arnie
