I will try to make this short story as long as I can.  I have a '99 2500 454
Suburban.  Towing in third gear in the hills of West Texas the mileage is a
little over eight MPG.  On the flats in overdrive the truck gets 11 to 13.
I usually tow at 60 to 70 on the Interstates traveling between jobs and as
slow as the traffic will allow when playing retired.  Without the A/S ('79
31' International) I usually get 12 to 13 traveling with the traffic,
usually 75 to just under 80.

This last Christmas I traveled alone without the trailer, Los Angeles to San
Antonio Texas.  I took a lot of time traveled just under 70 and used premium
unleaded fuel (between $1.60 and $1.32 the gallon) my mileage was 13 to 15
MPG.

On my next to last day there I went to the farm South of San Antonio.  There
had been rain for about four weeks and the ground was soaked.  I mired the
Sub in up to the frame, took Elmer and me five hours to get unstuck.  On the
way back to California, within the first two miles, I discovered a bad out
of balance shake at any thing above 62 MPH on the speedometer.  I washed the
wheels off at the two-bit carwash at Castroville, no help.  Anyway I
traveled at 58 MPH all the way from San Antonio to Los Angeles.  The mileage
was 15 from San Antonio to DelRio, 16.5 Delrio to Tucson and 19.2 from
Tucson to Los Angeles.  I traveled slower from Tucson because I go through
Gila Bend and over Arizona 8 through the farmlands.

The 19.2 is the best mileage I ever got on the Sub since I purchased it in '
99.

Traveling at 57 to 58 MPH everyone dislikes you a bunch.
