Re: [A/S] F250 PSD Mileage
Tom:
I have an '01 Crew Cab Shortbed Powersmoker, my "Grruck"...It has almost
30,000 miles on it, which is just barely around the block twice in diesel
terms...I haven't done any of the fancy things...no K&N filter, nothing. I
get it serviced per the owners manual. Wash it once in a while to reduce
the wind resistance due to excess dirt. An old logging truck driver told me
to find out what RPM produced the most foot-pounds of torque (the most
grunt) in my engine...I asked at the dealership and had the service guys
running every-which-way trying to figure out the answer (for a woman,
yet!)...Finally, one of the new, enthusiastic salesmen got me the
answer...1600 RPM...When I drive by the tach, 1600 is about 58 mph...I get
22 on the highway, 15-16 when towing my Silver Twinkie loaded with beer and
essentials (Western Washington mountains and such). If I get impatient, the
mileage drops... On a two hour driving shift, I get to my destination in
about the same amount of time, while enjoying the scenery and without having
to pass everyone else on the road.
I have been told that I could drop several hundred on a new chip and
increase mileage more...Others on the list will give you more info on
that...
Hopefully I've been gentle enough...The lay terminology part...let up on the
accelerator a skosh!
