Several months ago, someone on the list mentioned that Delorme was no 
longer producing it's AAA Map'n'Go navigation program, nor its similar 
Street Atlas program which uses a GPS transponder and a laptop computer 
in the vehicle. 

I have used both of these products and found them to be very useful, 
especially in unfamiliar areas (or where an alternate route is needed 
to get around a traffic snarl). Since they run on an ordinary PC based 
laptop, the cost (not including the lap top) is modest compared to a 
built in navigation product.  Also, the route can be planned on the 
computer outside of the tow vehicle or motor home and saved for 
subsequent use. 

I recently contacted Delorme, and they sent the following response.  I 
think this information should be of interest to many Airstreamers. 

Dear Oliver: AAA Map'n'Go 7.0 will be our final version of the product.
Most of our AAA Map'n'Go customers have switched to Street Atlas USA, 
which offers more accurate maps and many more features than AAA 
Map'n'Go. Furthermore, AAA has decided to develop a new Internet 
mapping and travel site, and since AAA Map'n'Go is a CD-ROM based 
product, the relationship no longer supports their Web strategy 

Street Atlas USA 2003  is designed for people looking for 
high-performance travel planning software.  It is America's leading 
CD-ROM mapping title. Like AAA Map'n'Go, it features street-level 
detail for top metropolitan areas in the U.S., but it also provides 
street-level detail for the entire U.S., even rural areas and dirt 
roads. Street Atlas USA Deluxe also provides address-to-address 
routing, compared to AAA Map'n'Go's city-to-city routing. 

Street Atlas USA 2003 features more than 6.2 million miles of routable 
roads and over 4 million points of interest including hotels, 
restaurants, ATMs, fuel stops, and more. (AAA Map'n'Go, by comparison, 
only includes 66,000 AAA listings.) The ability to search for exit 
services with 24-hour gas stations, ATMS, food, and other travel needs 
within a radius of Interstate exits makes it easy to plan the best 
places to stop. 

Detailed turn-by-turn intersection maps are included as well as a 
Travel/Time planner, providing the ability to plan scheduled stops, 
such as where to stop after driving for eight hours.  A fuel 
consumption tool is also included and will prompt users to schedule 
stops for refueling based on the size of their gas tank and their 
average miles per gallon. The product also lets travelers plan and 
save multiple routes, perfect for long trips Street Atlas USA 2003  is 
the only product on the market that lets you draw in your own local 
roads, name them, and then route on and search for the roads you 
created.
