has any of you tried some of the flexible solar panels and if so how did they 
work for you. 

Haven't tried them, but they look expensive. 110 watts of rigid panel cost me <
$600, I installed. 110 watts of those would be $2200, and a wiring nightmare. 
Black gets very hot in direct sun, you will need a very high temperature 
adhesive. Not directly facing the sun causes a rapid drop off in current , the 
ones on the roof away from the sun are going to be pretty useless.
