RE: [A/S] what to buy to pull a 64 safari (29 ft; 4100lbs)?
Prof -
a) Will a 1/2 ton vehicle pull your 29' 4,100 lb. trailer? Yes.
Will that load be a strain on the engine & transmission? Definitely.
If you are planning on taking your trailer into those areas
of the country with real hills & mountains, your 1/2 ton vehicle may
give up on you all together. Today's regular 1/2 tonners
just are not the same workhorses as were earlier year models -
smaller engines for mileage, softer rides for our backsides,
options out the kazoo, lite transmissions, & on & on.
b) If you can get there, try to go with a 3/4 tonner, either
something like a Suburban or Expedition or just a pickup. Diesels make
a great puller, and I use mine for every day, even for
grocery hauling! Ford, Chevy & Dodge are all making good tow vehicles,
so
go with whatever you are used to & comfortable with. I love
mine and don't regret going for the bigger vehicle at all. I get lots of
room & respect in freeway driving.
Let us know what you decide -
