Hi Barbara,

I have a 73 and that is a classic place for a leak.
I removed the bumper storage cover, and the trim strip that should have 
a blue line on it. Then I took vulkem and went nuts, both above and 
below the plate that the cover screws into.  I had previously caulked up 
everything else back there ; seams, window, lights, even up on the roof 
and around the awning. This last attack seems to have done the job. 
Apparently, the under skin comes up over the upper skin and the joint is 
supposed to be covered by the trim strip. HA. I also find that water 
creeps in on the underside of the hinge plate.
