RE: [A/S] Texas travel

	Jim - The bluebonnets are as hard to predict as any other aspect
of Texas, as it all depends on rainfall & other weather and soil
conditions. They can be in all their beauty from the end of March
through the end of April. As for where to see them, I hope others on
this List will donate their 2 cents worth, but I know the citizens and
Highway Department employees around the small town of Brenham take their
bluebonnets seriously, either spreading tons of seed or making sure the
current crop isn't cut down too soon (giving the dying plant time to
re-seed itself). Brenham is on state highway 290, about 90 miles west of
Houston. The bluebonnets can show themselves on any state & interstate
highway, but I would think the best displays will be starting from
Brenham and drive west to southwest through our "hill country" heading
towards Fredricksburg. Basically, they like a dry, hilly, not too
fertile soil type environment, with no standing water - thus my mention
of our hill country.

	I hope you can stay long enough to enjoy their beauty. Lots of
property owners spend a good bit of money seeding them on 
	their property and / or on their section of country roadsides.
Some counties with some spare budget money will also re-seed (the
viewing tourists are good for the local economy!!)

	As I said, I KNOW Brenham and the surrounding counties can be
counted on to put on a good show, if this is to be a good year for the
flowers.
