I highly recommend Texas "Hill Country".  The area north of San Antonio near
Kerrville, Fredericksburg, Johnson City.  Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park in
Fredericksburg has a great campground with great rates, and is a good base
camp to explore the area.  There are lots of wild flowers in bloom  starting
around mid April.  Lady Bird Johnson was responsible for having thousands of
acres of wild flowers planted in the area.  The LBJ Ranch in Johnson City has
a wonderful display.
