I have had the same experience as George. 96 3/4 ton 454 sub with towing package. lost 
a transmission then added a second inline tran. cooler and have had good results.

As an FYI, I found a GM release (warning) that several of the tran cooler lines were 
kinked on the 96 models. Mine was not, but worth a look.
