I don't think you have to change the fan.  I likely have the same 
fan, it closes when it rains or high humidity.   
If you pull down on the knob,(kind of a star shape)the lid is them on 
manual operation and wil NOT close no matter how much it rains, so 
you don't want to leave the trailer with the damper "open on manual" 
if rain is a possibility.
I got my Fantastic Fan at Rapid City 2002.
