RE: [A/S] Protection other than Clearcoat
In Anchorage, AK, during the summer of 2001 I washed the trailer at a
commercial wash place (primarily for cars, but he had a big bay for the
rest of us) using a high-pressure spray with some kind of detergent mixed
in. It went quickly and did an excellent job, and took very little "elbow
grease" from me. Cost only a couple bucks of quarters in his machine.
Back home now, I recently purchased one of the pressure washers that can
suck up a detergent from a bucket as I go. I haven't washed the trailer
with it yet, but I plan to do so, holding the sprayer back a couple feet
from the skin (it probably would take the clearcoat off at a couple inches
- it is THAT powerful). I have some commercial cleaning detergent meant for
industrial cleaning. I will re-read the contents list, but if I don't see
anything corrosive in it, I will be using a weak mix of it on the trailer.
BTW, one of these pressure washers just might be a quickie way to actually
remove the clearcoat prior to refinishing an AS. Maybe somebody will try
that some day and report. The basic electric ones are well under a hundred
bucks these days.
