  You have a good point:

If it were me, I'd get a spare towing receptacle (as is on the truck) 
and connect wires to the "hot" and "brake" wires, making them long 
enough to reach the handle of the power dollie. I'd strap a pushbutton 
(momentary) switch to the handle, so I could press it at any time to set 
the trailer brakes.

It goes without saying that you can't LEAVE power on the brakes for a 
long period, but a test of mine showed that the magnets don't get 
excessively warm in 10 minutes or so of full power.
