I don't think CBs are the same as they were when I was into it in the 
70's (when I was a radio tech in the USAF).  Cobra used to be good, 
but got bought out.  I used to be a Midland fan, but I'm not sure if 
they're the same.  Uniden has always been known as an "economy" 
electronics supplier, but these days, they're probably as good as 
any, and seem to be pretty popular among the truckers from what I 
hear.

When it comes to features, noise blankers are better than automatic 
noise limiters (ANL), but that isn't as much of an issue with a 
diesel and the shielding on modern gas engines.  I like having the PA 
feature, but it isn't really necessary.  An RF gain is nice to keep 
your front end from overloading if someone is close to you, but 
again, it's sorta a nice to have.  I think the NOAA Weather Channels 
would be nice if you don't have a scanner in the truck (I will).

None of the internal speakers in CBs, especially the mini ones, are 
worth a hoot for us old farts with high frequency hearing loss... 
that's about all they put out.  You CAN find CBs with front-firing 
speakers.

I really don't like overhead consoles unless they were put there at 
the factory and crash-tested with the rest of the vehicle.  I had a 
friend who got in an accident in his van and got some head injury 
from it when it came loose on one side during the roll-over.

Yeah... I carry one of those six-pack coolers, with blue ice in the 
lid, on the floor in front of the center of the front seat.  Don't 
wanna give that up! LOL!
