Let me first state that I am NOT a fan of bloated Micro$oft programs, 
BUT, I found one that I like...

I got a limited/trial copy of Microsoft MapPoint, loaded it on the 
laptop and found it to be an excellant product.

My wife and I just finished our honeymoon that took us from 
Middletown Ohio area to Bozeman MT with a via to Lacross WI, Wisc 
Dells, Mpls MN onto the target of Gallatin Gateway MT then home down 
thru Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, Casper WY, and thru Iowa towards home.

I would have normally used Street Atlas since I use SA7 for my Ham 
Radio activities (APRS) -- but, MapPoint allowed me to locate a nice 
resturaunt when we needed some BEEF, allowed me to find campgrounds 
without having to resort to the Woodalls... 

I looked at my current location (GPS of course:), plotted either a 
distance or if we had a city in mind, clicked on "nearby" and found 
all the campgrounds in any selected zone from 1 to 40 miles out. 
Double click on the name, it plots on the map with address and phone 
number. Phone number was important, as too many campgrounds pack up 
the picnic tables in late September and the owners head for Orlando 
or Melbourne Beach.

MapPoint also gave me a list of RV service/truck service center for a 
small problem we encountered between Yellowstone and Jackson. 

Since one of my other hobbies is battle fields, I could also search 
on Monuments and found a couple that I had not visited.

You can search on a map point OR your entire path, .1 to 40 miles 
out... neat. I also like "exit services" so I could locate a gas 
station that matched a credit card, but SA7 has this feature too.

I bought SA7 with the understanding that it had a link to Woodalls 
info... I discovered that I needed to be ONLINE -- a little difficult 
while driving (a future project :)

I have used Street Atlas, Streets and Trips, Chicago Mapping Streets, 
National Geographic, Rand Mcnally and I would recommend MapPoint over 
all of them. The only one I have not used is the DeLorme Topo maps 
and would like to try it.
