What I posted about was this:  the tow vehicle and trailer need *friction*
or road contact to stop and/or manuveur.

Without friction we'd all be at the end of outer space, far from the
Internet as we know it.

When there are hitches that "lock" for good or bad, the tow vehicle and the
towed trailer they need *friction* or road contact to work correctly.

This is what I was saying in my previous post on this subject.  I did paint
a picture for our mind's eye to visualize, sometimes it's easier to grasp a
concept in a picture than with words alone.

To live on planet Earth, we need *friction* which is just another way to say
gravity.  Once a unit begins a slide they stop only when they regain
*friction* or contact or they are stopped by a solid object like a bridge
support, an oak tree, a semi-tractor trailer rig or they plain run out of
inertia and gavity stops them from sliding further.  The slide ends
somewhere due to *friction*.

The road contact or *friction* with the road surface allows us to make these
tow vehicle with trailers attached actually bend in the middle.  Without
*friction* the tow vehicle/trailer combination would not "bend in the
middle".  If the towed vehicle and attached trailer are in a straight line
when the slide begins you will NOT be able to "bend in the middle" until you
regain contact with the surface again.

My point being here that with a hitch like the Equal-i-zer has lots of
friction between the load leveler bars and where they attach at the trailer
frame points.  These types of bars are very tight yet they are not "locked"
up as is the case with the Hensley and even the Reese cam-lock setup.

If in a slide as a unit, the Equal-i-zer hitch will begin to "bend in the
middle" as soon as road contact is regained due to the way it's designed and
built.  The Hensley and Reese cam-lock setups require a lot more in the way
of *friction* to begin to do their magic.

While we are discussing *friction* and road contact as it pertains to a
skidding situation can anyone tell me why a lot if not mostly all 18 wheeler
trucks do NOT have brakes on their steering tires?

Anyone?
