Jim,

They were typically setup to react to the slightest side motion. As you well 
know if a hitch isn't setup correctly even an Airstream(Argosy) will sway. If 
the owner doesn't adjust for changes in load a trailer can get unstable. In 
other words a lot of little things that if they are not taken to account and 
dealt with will be covered up be an automatic sway control system. Because 
some much of this is dependent on owner hitch up and dealer setup even newer 
sensors would be hard pressed to know the difference.
