[A/S] 22',24',26' -- How long is too long?

Dear List,

Thanks for all the great advice on models and tow vehicles. Hunter, 
I have given up any notion of towing an Airstream with my SAAB. This 
has opened up consideration of all the available models without 
being distracted by weight issues, as we will get a dedicated tow 
vehicle (probably a used Suburban). I am now agonizing over length. 
We have two kids, 7 & 10. Some 22' Safaris have our desired two twin 
beds and a double. They have only a single axle, and the layout 
seems a bit small. The 24' Tradewinds have three beds, the double 
axle, and the advantage of a "separate" bedroom area. However, we 
have just found a very nice '26 foot Overlander with the desired bed 
layout for sale. My question is are there any great disadvantages to 
having a 26' trailer as opposed to a 22'(or a 24', for that matter)? 
Is a 26' significantly harder to pull, maneuver, get around corners, 
and back into a campsite? Are there many campsites that will not 
allow a 26'? Are dual axles that much better? Are we likely to be 
dissatisifed with the small size of a Safari and want more room? I 
get the impression that people do freqently start small and then 
regret it and end up selling and getting a larger trailer. Has 
anyone on the list started large and ended up unhappy, selling and 
getting a smaller trailer? Smaller Airstreams are more desirable, 
and I guess I don't fully understand why. Judging from the huge 5th 
wheelers and motorhomes on the roads today, a '26 foot trailer seems 
relatively small. We plan to use the trailer for long weekend trips 
and once or twice or twice a year 2-3 week road trips.
