IMHO, the tandem axle Overlanders represent the ideal balance of
size/towability... and if it seems too crowded with the kids sleeping
inside, you could always bring along a pop-tent or two for them...

Seems like an Overlander and a 3/4-ton Suburban rigged for towing (hefty
rear axle and transmission cooler) would suit your needs perfectly.
