Re: [A/S] Our *new* Airstream FK model
We, too, have a front kitchen. We ordered our 1999 model just before they
quit making them. We were told by the factory that ours was the last FK
Excella to be made - there was one Limited that rolled off the line after
ours. Then someone told us about a party who had ordered a 99 like us, and
it was wrecked on the way to the dealer. It was 'repaired' and the new
owners not told. They had so many problems with it and finally demanded that
Airstream replace it. So, Airstream produced the only 2000 FK ever made just
for them. Cool!
We have been full-timing for two years now and love the floor plan.
Incidentally, we also have a Hensley and Beaver Bed (thanks to Hunter for
turning us on to that).
We have a question for those of you who have this model - do you find the
sofa comfortable? Being full-timers, we spend our evenings watching TV,
which means using it A LOT. Ours started to break down in the middle and
became quite uncomfortable. Since it is across from the entertainment
center, there is not enough room to remove it and replace it with chairs as
you could with a front lounge. The factory told us we could not remove the
cushions without removing the entire frame. Not so. We removed the
cushions, leaving the frame and drawer beneath, constructed a hinged platform
and use a futon mattress. It works quite well.
