Okay, here's the last and probably best response from the most knowledgeable 
guy...


    I would go with one of the other suggestions offered- either
put a disconnect right on the battery -there is a really nice one that

cheap, and IMHO works better, is more reliable, and is far smaller
than the knife blade type disconnects.
    To just disconnect the LP detector- Bob Carr has a good point-
usually the detector is powered by its own fuse, they can just pull
that fuse.
