Re: [A/S] Re: Tow Vehicle Choice and O/D

I will say it again
there is no substitute for Horsepower/rear end ratio with a gasser.
If your needs are greater than what is available with a gasser, then get a
diesel. I know, I have thrown money at my 90 Burb for so long that I now refuse
to tow the trailer until I find the truck I want.
The burb carries almost a ton and the trailer is probably close to 8,000.
that makes for a lot more weight than the burb can stop or pull thru mountain
passes. even with the strongest gassers. Now, If I were going to never tow
outside of Texas (and that includes never towing out of Palo Duro Canyon), I
would be happy with a heavy half or any of those little gassers.
But, I like the Rockies and there are very few grades East of the Front Range
that can compare with a LOT of the Interstate grades in the Rockies not to speak
of the US and State and County roads.

I know the limitation of my truck and with its T400 tranny without an OD, the
4.10 rear end and the woefully weak 353, I will not try to even pull the
trailer thru Cimmarron Canyon from Raton to Taos or to get into or out of
Jellystone Park.

There is NO substitute for low end torque or huge horsepower and the 454 is not
it - I have seen way too many of those parked on the sides of grades with their
hoods up while I kept on slowly creeping up past them.

I want the E350 with heavy duty tow package and the 1999 era 7.3 PSD and very
likely, the 4.1x rear end. O/D? you bet, when soloing.

enuff
