[A/S] tow vehicle choice

I tow our '78 Ambassador with a 1/2 ton Chevy
Suburban.
I like it for several reasons...the first being that
it is paid for.  It is a 1992 with 134,000 miles and
is in excellent shape.  The only problem I have is
that it is somewhat underpowered on the hills.  I see
that there are chips and options for diesels to get
more power.  Is the same type of stuff available for
gas engines?  I thought about buying a newer 3/4 ton
truck but at this point I only tow 3 weeks out of the
year and it is hard to justify a new purchase when the
old vehicle runs great. Thanks.
