I tried that and while I got some voltage, it wasn't
enough to energize the battery to get the jack
working.  I've never had a trailer where plugging into
the tow vehicle could immediately overcome a bad
battery or battery that had insufficient charge. 

I'm afraid at this point that the battery may be
toast.  I got it home and checked it and found it had
4 volts in it.  I stuck it on the 6 amp charger around
8 PM last night and according to the charger this
morning about 11 hours later, its only sitting at
about 60% charge.

I really won't know if the problem was caused by
something being left on until I can get some electric
into the trailer.  I didn't see any switches on but I
am suspect about a compartment light.  Maybe I can
limp through this weekend's campout even if the
battery isn't up to snuff.  I'm using full hookups so
as long as I can get the jack to work I'll be ok.

I want to avoid pulling the head off the jack.  I did
it once before last year with a jack with an
intermittant short.  The dealer initially told me that
I hadn't syncronized the head and had screwed up the
gears and A/S wouldn't replace it under warranty.  I
reminded them that I had no book with the jack and
they reconsidered.  After further checking they  found
the short and it ended up as a warranty item.
