A couple of additional thoughts, while I said there is
no preference for a CO detector from a height
standpoint there is (at least in a home) a few issues.
 

First placing the unit near a source of combustion can
cause premature sounding of the alarm.  My sister has
a CO unit near her water heater at home.  An
occasional downdraft on the waterheater vent pipe has
activated her CO detector.

Second, putting a unit near the sleeping area in a
home gives you a better chance of hearing the alarm
and waking.

The sleeping area issue is probably not relavant due
to the size of a trailer, but it is very well possible
that cooking or use of the oven for extended periods
in a closed trailer might set off a CO detector.  For
example we carry a shower cap that we put around our
smoke detector (which sits above the fold out table)
when we use the toaster.
