Thomas, I'm sure you mean a CO detector...lots of
difference between CO (carbon monoxide) and CO2
(carbon dioxide) .

CO really tends to mix well with the existing
atmosphere in a confined space so there is no
preferred spot for the mounting a CO sensor.

Obviously since you have a combination unit which is a
smoke detector, and we know that smoke does tend to
rise, the ceiling is the best location for your
combination unit.
