We met a family at our Winter Texan stay that used the Freightliner to pull 
their 17,000 lb 5th wheel trailer... He pointed out the the problem is not 
pulling the trailer and you can pull a lot more than you can safely stop.  A 
trailer brake failure (for what ever reason) on a fair down hill grade will 
more than white knuckle you... The Freightliner came soon after a harrowing 
down hill session that had the passenger crying and praying out loud... 

His comment on cost was "It's twice as much as a very nice 3/4 ton, but our 
safety is worth every penny.."

Obviously you can pull more than the rated capacity of the truck. I have 
done it and I know others that would not think twice before settin out..  
Maybe I am getting more careful in my old age...
