Do I understand that you have not seen any rats? Rats don't normally 
stay where food isn't handy. Why cut up the floor? Just loosen the 
belly pan in a couple of spots and put in posion. (pen up the cat) 
Rats have a keen sense of smell and like mice, they don't like moth 
balls. That's all we do to protect our seasonal toys. Good luck..
